Why Couples Choose Capri for an Elopement Wedding
Crossing the Mediterranean by ferry to the magical island of Capri feels like leaving everyday life behind and setting off toward a new beginning.
The island feels like a world apart, with dramatic cliffs, turquoise and sea-green water, centuries of history, Italian culture and the glamour of La Dolce Vita.
- Island escape. A true sense of getting away and beginning something new.
- History & culture. Roman villas, centuries of history and Italian island life.
- Iconic scenery. Limestone cliffs, Mediterranean blue and the Faraglioni.
- La Dolce Vita. Elegant hotels, private boats, sunset aperitivi and intimate dining.
Capri has inspired myth and legend since antiquity, from Homer’s world of Odysseus and the Sirens to Roman emperors and La Dolce Vita.
Multi-day Capri Elopement Wedding Experiences
A Capri intimate wedding can be more than one day. There is plenty to experience across the island, and staying a little longer gives you time to enjoy it beyond the wedding itself. Here are a few ideas.
Elopement Day:
A private ceremony, boat ride, and intimate dinner overlooking the sea.
Wedding Weekend:
Welcome dinner at Capri Rooftop overlooking the Faraglioni. Aperitivi in the Piazzetta, a beach club day, lunch at Il Riccio, or sunset drinks at Il Faro.
Extended Stay or Honeymoon:
Stay a few more days and add experiences like:
- a private boat tour and Blue Grotto
- Fontelina or Marina Piccola
- the chairlift to Monte Solaro
- Gardens of Augustus
- Villa Jovis and ancient Roman ruins
- long lunches and dinners around the island
Capri has a lot to experience in a small area. A few extra days lets you enjoy the island at a slower pace. You can even take the Hydrofoil and do day trips to the Amalfi Coast, Ischia or Procida.
The Best Time of Year for an Capri Luxury Elopement
- April
- May
- Early June
- Mid-September
- October
These months offer the best balance of weather, light, privacy, vendor availability, and guest experience.
July and August are not recommended for an intimate Capri wedding. The island and the whole region and reach high temperatures (which is not ideal for weddings), gets crowded, and expensive during peak summer.
The Island is quaint and becomes overcrowded quickly. Traffic, stairs, boats, restaurant reservations, hotel access, and guest movement all become more difficult
Service can also suffer during peak season because the island is stretched by overtourism.
For the most relaxed and elegant experience, plan your Capri luxury elopement during shoulder season.
Best Areas to Stay in Capri for an Elopement Wedding
Capri Town
The historic heart of the island and the easiest base for couples who want to be close to everything.
From Marina Grande, the funicular takes you directly up to the Piazzetta in about five minutes, or you can arrive by taxi.
The center is largely pedestrian, with Via Camerelle, cafés, excellent restaurants, boutiques and some of Capri’s best-known hotels, including Grand Hotel Quisisana and Hotel Punta Tragara.
Marina Piccola
On the southern side of Capri, Marina Piccola is more about private villas and life by the sea.
Spend the day swimming, lunching at beach clubs such as La Canzone del Mare, Torre Saracena or Da Gioia, and enjoying some of the island’s best views of the Faraglioni from across the bay.
It is a beautiful choice for couples who want a quieter, more residential base with easy access to Capri’s beach life.
Anacapri
Anacapri has a different character from Capri Town, with its own lively center, restaurants, shops and luxury hotels including Capri Palace Jumeirah and Caesar Augustus.
You have Villa San Michele, the chairlift to Monte Solaro, or explore the streets around Piazza Vittoria. Great for aperitivo or gelato stop.
For dining, L’Olivo, and La Zagara are some of the best-known choices.
